State of the Union of Alcohol Prevention:Why the 2002 NIAAA Report is Obsolete as the Current Guide to Alcohol Prevention

Date: Tuesday, October 12, 2010, 3:00 – 4:00pm Eastern
Hosted by Brandon Busteed, Founder & CEO, Outside The Classroom

A research article published in the October 2010 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research shows that only a small percentage of colleges and universities have acted on the NIAAA recommendations from 2002. What’s more, the NIAAA research was conducted almost a decade ago, and more than 700 studies have since been published on “college and alcohol.” Clearly the field of prevention is in need of a new roadmap for enacting real change. To address this issue, this presentation will:

  • Uncover the latest critical data, themes, trends, and issues related to college drinking.
  • Describe a new methodology for determining “what works” -- which programs, policies and strategies to put in place.
  • Discuss national trends in student abstention from alcohol and how to harness the power of the “silent majority.”
  • Outline a framework for making breakthrough progress in alcohol prevention —one that addresses not just the what, but the how.
